Prof. Briganti is European Urology’s new EIC
Prof. Alberto Briganti will succeed Prof. James Catto as editor-in-chief (EIC) of European Urology, EAU’s primary journal. In June 2023, Prof. Briganti will take on his new role and collaborate with Prof. Catto until the end of next year assuring a proper transition period for the leadership of the Journal. Prof. Catto has led the journal and overseen the European Urology family of journals since 2013.
“The designation as Editor-in-Chief of this prestigious journal provides me with a great sense of professional satisfaction. To accede to this function is a privilege; I aspire to further contribute to the urological scientific community,” said Prof. Briganti.
Get to know the new EIC
Prof. Briganti is a Full Professor of Urology at the Vita-Salute San Raffaele University in Milan, Italy. Since 2017, he has been the EIC of European Urology Oncology, a sister journal of European Urology devoted to the study of genitourinary malignancies.
Author of more than 1,200 scientific works published in international peer-reviewed journals, Prof. Briganti’s main research interests include prostate cancer and genito-urinary malignancies. He is also a reviewer of numerous scientific journals in urology and oncology.
Throughout his career, Prof. Briganti received numerous accolades such as the EAU Crystal Matula Award, which is a coveted prize given to young promising urologists who have the potential to be future leaders in academic urology.
Tasks and duties
Among Prof. Briganti’s core responsibilities as EIC will include ensuring that published papers in European Urology reflect the full scope of urology practice; developing new initiatives to keep the journal at the forefront of urological research and technology; encouraging the submission of manuscripts that reflect the highest scientific standards and the latest advances; coordinating the activities of all EAU Journals.

Since its inception in 1975, European Urology publishes peer-reviewed original articles, reviews, and opinion-piece editorials on a wide range of urological problems on a monthly basis. European Urology has a current impact factor of 24.344 making it the leading journal in the field.
European Urology is part of a family of journals published by Elsevier which also consist of European Urology Focus, European Urology Open Science, and the aforementioned European Urology Oncology. All EAU members have free unlimited access to these publications.
