Vesicovaginal fistulae are rare in high-resource settings as they predominantly occur as a consequence of pelvic surgery. Especially in low- and middle-resource settings, vesicovaginal fistulae occur at an overwhelming rate as a consequence of obstructed 2nd stage of labour worldwide.
In this e-course, we will review the surgical techniques, outcomes, and complications of numerous surgical approaches to vesicovaginal fistula repair, using operative videos whenever possible. We will address the pros and cons of vaginal, open abdominal, and robotic abdominal repair, as well as the flaps used for complex vesicovaginal fistula repair.
We aim to provide the participants with a comprehensive overview of what can be done surgically for female patients with vesicovaginal fistula. We strive to enable the participants to choose the most clinical and cost-effective treatment for their patients, through the optimisation of their personal surgical skills set and their healthcare setting.
